Something Great

Arsene Wenger cobbled together starting lineups with spit and duct tape and Denilson and somehow the team dragged its ass over the finish line in third or fourth.

Recap

Oh well... loads of goals where I predicted few, few goals where I predicted many, and as usual, wrong on all counts. Alright, let's make this quick...

Arsenal should have won that game. Adebayor should have scored at (literally) the last minute. But at least they didn't concede an away goal. Now a draw at the San Siro takes them through. I still think they'll do it.

Fabregas was definitely man of the match. He was a thoroughly dominating presence in the midfield, pulling all the strings and punting perfectly weighted balls into the box for the strikeforce. If only he could have passed them to himself, because nobody had their finishing boots on. It was nice to see him back in form after a string of lackluster outings, and to see him do it against a midfield comprised of Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf, and Gattuso. Also deserving of praise was Senderos, who came on for an injured Kolo Toure early in the game. He's shaken his old reputation (at least for the moment), and was completely solid at the back. I think he'll continue to raise some questions as to a possible starting role.

Milan's defense was the epitome of good organization. I lost count of the number of times they had to deal with corners or looping passes and made it look easy. Paolo Maldini says he'll retire at the end of this season now that he's 39 years old. Maybe he shouldn't; he was Milan's best player and didn't put a foot wrong all day.

And the others...

Celtic almost had it for a second. I guess we all learned what happens when you defend sloppily against a front three of Messi, Henry, and Eto'o. Nothing good. Also, how about that vintage Titi Henry? To those saying he was done: Shhh.

United were unlucky not to score first, but in the end, were lucky to get the draw. Now Lyon have to score and at least draw at Old Trafford. Hardly an easy proposition. I must say, though, that Benzema certainly lived up to the hype with that opener. Pretty.

I guess all of Milan and Arsenal's goals went to Fenerbahce and Sevilla. Fear the Turks!

Well, that's it for now. None of these results has completely settled things, but as of now, you have to like Liverpool, Barca, and United to go through. Everything else is too close to call.

well it appears that unfortunately milan were able to execute their stubborn italian plan just well enough, and arsenal reverted back to the lets do everything except get the ball in the net form of last season, it would be delightful if cesc starts getting back into the i'm the best midfielder in the EPL so suck it gerrard and lamps you english ninnies form of the fall, it might take a long range effort to beat the milan distance at the san siro, a place where the rossonerri have had trouble scoring this season (12 for in 11 matches in Serie A) unfortunately their opponents have found it equally difficult (8 goals), perhaps this is why Wenger is questioning the quality of the pitch at the San Siro? Any way any draw but a goalless draw will get me excited.

For me a somewhat surprising result in Lyon, Benzema's strike was pretty wicked, and Man U certainly pressed like they were going for blood (according to match commentary),and should have capitalized more (for me its a shock when this side is held to less than 2 goals), but i concur there should be no problems at old trafford.

celtic on the other hand will need another inquisition to surmount the catalon giants (2-0/4-3 or better), of course messi bags a brace because i pick tevez over him, alas,

good for the turks to get the win, but 2 away goals might have been 1 too many as sevilla should be able to handle them easily at home (3-1 over the gunners at home after losing 3-0 at the emirates),

After all of the action today things should be even more exciting in 2 weeks time

I will say that in what I followed online and saw in the 1:40 highlight on the internet, Arsenal dominated. Glad to hear Cesc is back, but alas, the Gunners took a step backwards. Adebayor surely did not sleep last night. Needless to say, AC will take it at home. No English team has won at the San Siro, and I don't see it happening. I also don't foresee a goal. So for shits, I'll take AC in PKs.

It is surprising that Man U scored one, but whatever, they still advance with ease.

Barca showed up, and now will just dick around for the entirety of their match against celtic.

And, well Fenerbahce won, but yeah, they'll probably lose to Sevilla and go home.

Now on to today - go Bayern!

just to correct ben, arsenal has in fact won at the san siro, albeit they were facing inter, it is correct that no enlish side has defeated ac milan at the san siro.
